GSV (Girls Sport Victoria) is Firbank’s interschool sport competition. It is an association of 23 girls schools in Melbourne that run weekly competitions.
All students in Years 3 to 6 participate in a weekly House sport which provide students with the opportunity to participate in a range of sports. These sessions focus on skill development and the promotion of teamwork and collaborative skills and, for older students, application to game situations.
Students have the opportunity to play District Interschool sport in Swimming, Cross Country, Athletics and Diving. Years 5 and 6 students can also elect to apply for selection into the representative sport programs each term.
All students in Years 5 and 6 compete in Interschool Sport against other schools in Terms 1, 2 and 3.
All students are involved in House activities and sport to promote House spirit and provide a sport competition in a friendly and supportive environment. The Intra-house competition (Years 3-6) promotes sportsmanship, camaraderie, responsibility and cooperation.
Opportunities are available each term for students to qualify for representative programs through the School Sport Victoria (SSV) carnival events and a representative sport program.
SSV programs progress from Division, Regional and State competition.
The Snowsports program is open to all Prep–6 students. Training and competitions are generally held outside of school hours. Other programs include weekly Run Club, Swim Squad and Firbank Netball.
