Our new Music Precinct
If I were not a physicist, I would probably be a musician. I often think in music. I live my daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of music. Albert Einstein
The Music Precinct will provide for a new generation of Firbank musicians
The commencement in 2017 of the redevelopment of Firbank House into a state-of- the art Music Precinct will enable us to provide inspiring teaching and learning environments for the performing arts and enhance our music curriculum and signature programs, giving students the opportunity to broaden their horizons. The Precinct will incorporate dedicated Recital and Rehearsal spaces designed to accommodate a variety of musical performances from full orchestra settings to string quartet or solo performances, and school community functions. In collaboration with specialist acoustic consultants, it will meet the exacting and variable acoustic standards required for Firbank’s broad variety of musical ensembles.
The Music Program is an integral part of life at Firbank from the classroom through to the senior ensembles; every student has an opportunity to explore the many elements of this wonderful creative art. Through music, our students discover much about themselves and use it as a powerful tool for self-expression.
The much-anticipated construction of the Music Precinct will provide the resources and infrastructure needed to support a young musician’s growth from beginner to advanced player. We have a world-class Music program and the gift of a world-class building would enhance the experience of every student who walks through our crested gates.
We seek the support of the Firbank community to help us raise $2million towards the cost of this $6million project. All donations, which are tax deductible, will help us meet our target and ensure the success of this project. There are significant opportunities for naming rights of spaces within the Precinct, and two practice rooms will be named in honour of the contributions made by two long-serving members of the Music Department – Pianist, Jerome Walles, and Old Grammarian and Music Teacher, Gay Hosie.
Firbank has recently been approved to be a part of the BHP Billiton Matched Giving Program. This program makes a strong impact on charitable donations by double matching employee contributions – for every dollar an employee donates, BHP Billiton donates two more. The program runs globally, encouraging Workplace Giving among the resources company’s employees throughout the world. There are currently around 1,200+ approved organisations in the program and new organisations are nominated every week. A strong governance framework ensures that only eligible charities and claims are processed – we are therefore very proud to have been approved.
We are urging members of our community who are BHP employees (or know someone who is), to consider making a contribution to Firbank’s Music Precinct, then following BHP’s company process for advising them of their contribution.
