Ban plastic bags!
Australians use nearly 10 million plastic bags every day, which amounts to four to six billion each year. 80 million of these bags escape into our litter stream, killing 100,000 birds and marine animals. And these bags will still be here for 1000 years before they break down. Please show your support for banning non-biodegradable plastic bags in Victoria by signing this petition.
Supermarket Recycling Programs
The average Australian produces 1.5 tonnes of waste in a year. The amount of landfill we produce is becoming an increasing issue in society. Fortunately, some supermarkets are creating customer recycling programs to help prevent waste production. Plastic is an enormous part of this. REDcycle is a plastic recycling program that has been set up across Australia. Plastic bags can be recycled in any of the drop off points in Australia, they are located in most Coles and Woolworths stores. Another problem is that an enormous 8,000 tonnes of batteries end up in landfill per year, these batteries can become toxic over time and are extremely harmful to the environment! ALDI has created a battery take back program, where used batteries can be recycled in any ALDI store. Using these programs to recycle waste can hugely reduce our impact on the planet.
