Whilst the school musical provided an amazing start to Term 3, the Year 5 students were also busy creating their own mini-musical productions.  The unit of inquiry, How we express ourselves enabled the students to work collaboratively over a number of weeks, preparing their own productions in which they were required to adhere to strict criteria items.  Some of the requirements were that a song from the 1960s had to be used, a dance from the 1920s and all props had to be created by the students.  The genre writing focus was script creation, as all good productions need a script!

After a successful morning of performances, in which Year 6 and the visiting students from Hangzhou Shengli attended, the students assessed themselves against four of the PYP Essential Elements.  This included the approaches to learning, learner profile attributes and attitudes.  To continue to develop students’ social skills, namely respecting others, they also assessed their peers.  This type of student-directed inquiry would not have been possible without the personal growth that has occurred due to the exceptional learning the students have undertaken as a part of the iTime Program.  Watching the students successfully collaborate and demonstrate learner agency has definitely been a highlight this year!
