This week, students have been busy learning how to find and record useful information about different ecosystems. They were encouraged to look for factual details in a variety of books and write them on post-it notes using dot points. This helped them to focus on key words that might describe the physical features of ecosystems and the lifestyles of their inhabitants. Students also planted a terrarium each, using pebbles, sand, potting mix, white flowering alyssum, and a small animal to sit with their plant. The plan is to observe them growing over time and determine the role of living and non-living things in giving optimal growing conditions. There is a pond ecosystem set up in the classrooms to show the range of animals in such an environment.
