2020 Performing Arts Scholarship – Brighton Campus
For students entering Years 7 to 11 in 2020.
At Firbank, Drama and Dance are part of the academic curriculum through to Year 12. The School has a long tradition of encouraging excellence in performance. There are extensive opportunities for students to participate in a variety of productions and performances during each school year. These include musicals, ensemble pieces, solo performance and student-directed productions during the School’s annual Creative Arts Festival.
Students have the opportunity to develop their skills in stagecraft and technical aspects of production. The School works closely with Brighton Grammar School in co-productions. Firbank Grammar and external candidates are eligible to apply.
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of an audition conducted by members of the Drama and Dance Departments and an interview with the Director of Admissions, Dr Jenny Peters. In the audition, students will perform a brief monologue (1 – 2 minutes), a short dance in any style (1 – 2 minute) and sing a short song in the musical theatre genre.
The scholarships are offered from the year of entry to Year 12, subject to a satisfactory annual school record, an annual review and participation in the School’s Performing Arts program, appropriate conduct, attitude and adherence to School Policies.
It is expected that Performing Arts scholars will participate in and contribute to the Performing Arts Program of the School and demonstrate leadership through example and participation and commitment to programs with attendance at rehearsals being a priority. Depending on the specific skills and expertise of the scholar, she will be required to participate in two or more productions in the Performing Arts Calendar annually. As a student ambassador for the Arts program, the Performing Arts scholar will support all who work in the Performing Arts programs at Firbank- students, staff and visiting artists.
If a successful applicant is a Boarder, she may be granted a remission on boarding fees. Please indicate on the Registration Form if you wish to be considered for a Boarding Scholarship for Performing Arts
Please ensure that your child fills in the online application form below and upload a copy of the applicant’s most recent school report and a copy of the latest NAPLAN results. An Application Fee of $100.00. will be charged by our testing service, Edutest.
Applications close Friday, 1 February, 2019. Auditions will be held at the Senior School during the week commencing Monday, 25 February , 2019. Candidates will be advised of the time and location. All applicants will be required to sit the Scholarship Examination which will be held on Saturday, 9 February, 2019.
All candidates will be notified of results by mail.
