2020 Music Scholarships – Brighton Campus
For students entering Years 5 to 11 in 2020. Firbank has a long tradition of excellence in music and provides a dynamic and varied music program which includes regular church and concert performances. Our new Music Precinct features state of the art facilities.
Bel Canto (our Senior auditioned choral group) and Instrumental groups have toured successfully overseas winning international competitions at Verona and Vienna. An appreciation of music in all its forms is encouraged at all levels of the School.
Music scholarships are offered to girls entering Firbank in Year 5 to 11 in 2020. Firbank Grammar students and external candidates are eligible to apply. The award of a Music Scholarship and the number of scholarships offered will depend on the quality of the applicants. The award will be made on the basis of an audition conducted by the Co-Directors of Music, previous schools reports and application form and an interview with the Director of Admissions, Dr Jenny Peters. All instruments (including voice) are eligible.
The scholarships are offered through to Year 12, subject to a satisfactory annual school record, participation in the School’s co-curricular music program, appropriate conduct, attitude and adherence to School Policies. Please note that any scholarship offer made includes up to one hour of free tuition per teaching cycle (must be taken within the School).
In order to realise any future potential identified during the audition process, scholarship holders are expected to continue individual tuition on their scholarship instrument (includes voice). Any decision to cease individual tuition must be discussed with the relevant Co-Director of Music.
Candidates should have attained Grade 3 or 4 AMEB level but this is a guide only. Future potential is also taken into account.
Auditions will be held at the Senior School campus in the week beginning 25 February 2019. Candidates will be advised of the time of the audition. Auditions last for approximately 20 minutes. Candidates will need to perform 2 or 3 contrasting pieces depending on length. If a candidate plays two or more instruments then 2 pieces should be played using the major instrument and the third piece on the minor instrument. Some sight-reading and aural tests will also be given. Candidates will need to provide their own accompanist.
Please ensure that your child fills in the online application form below and upload a copy of the applicant’s most recent school report and a copy of the latest NAPLAN results. An Application Fee of $100.00 will be charged by our testing service, Edutest.
