A Year of Discovery & Firsts

Welcome to Year 7 2017

This is the start of your daughter’s exciting journey to adulthood.

The Senior School experience is very different from the Primary years, as it needs to be.

Year 7 is a year of discovery and a year of firsts.

The girls are expected to take more responsibility for their learning and day to day organisation. They will be guided in developing these skills by their House Mentor, the Head of Year 7 and their subject teachers.

The girls will take their first step on our sequential Outdoor Education Program when they attend Year 7 camp at Anglesea early in Term 1.

For the first time, they will have not one classroom teacher, but 14 class teachers - and 14 names and locations to remember! One of the locations will be the flexible learning centre in our newest building. The flexibility of this space allows students to make individual decisions about the way in which they work and move beyond the restrictions of traditional classroom spaces and furniture. It is large enough to cater for the whole of Year 7 to work together on curriculum and other activities.

A key benefit of this new space is that it allows teachers to work as a team and students are able to draw upon the expertise of more than one teacher.

Year 7 students will discover that they have a much greater range of co-curricular activities in Senior School: 19 sports, drama productions and clubs, music ensembles (instrumental and vocal), debating, inter-House competition.

Perhaps the most important discovery for the girls is new friends.

The Discovery Camp, held in the first week of Term 1, will provide opportunities to develop new friendships in a range of situations: camping out in two-girl tents, kayaking on the river, surfing, body-boarding, snorkelling, stand-up paddle boarding and the initiatives course.
