Learning at Firbank is inspiring and challenging. From Early Learning to Year 12, students are encouraged to identify and enhance their individual skills and talents. Our students work with energy and resilience to take advantage of the extensive learning experiences offered.
The curriculum places a strong emphasis on the key areas of literacy and numeracy.
The junior schools are currently implementing the Primary Years Program of the International Baccalaureate. This ensures high academic standards and intellectual rigour are maintained while students’ learning is enriched by the global perspective.

Thinking Skills An overriding aim at Firbank is to foster a love of learning and to stimulate creativity, intellectual curiosity and independent thought. The importance of good thinking is recognised by the implementation of a Thinking Curriculum from Prep –Year 9. The Primary Years Program of the International Baccalaureate places an emphasis on inquiry learning.
Planning units of work using a ‘Whole Brain’ approach also ensures that all thinking and learning styles are acknowledged.
Acknowledging individual needs At Year 7, students are introduced to the concept of different learning styles and preferences. This process leads to recognition and acknowledgement of individual differences in preferred learning styles. It helps students to acknowledge their own and others’ strengths and recognise new ways of approaching learning.
Teacher Teams at Years 7 and 8 enable team members to share information about the students in their care and develop approaches to delivering curriculum that are appropriate to the class and meet the needs of individual students. The team meetings facilitate the monitoring of student academic and personal progress, the co-ordination of homework tasks and the development of cross-curricular projects.
