Firbank Grammar is committed to offering scholarships to exceptional students in a range of fields of endeavour who will take full advantage of the diverse opportunities available to them at the School.

The number of scholarships offered will vary depending on the quality of the applicants in each scholarship category. The remission of fees is determined by the School.

The non-refundable Enrolment Fee is payable on acceptance of an offer of a scholarship.

ACADEMIC

SENIOR and JUNIOR ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIPS will be held on Saturday, 18 February 2017

Criteria

  • For girls entering Years 3 to 11 inclusive in 2018.
  • Awarded on the basis of the results of the Edutest Examination and subject to an interview.
  • Firbank Grammar students and external candidates are eligible.
  • Boarding Scholarships are also available in Years 7 to 11.

Photo ID will be required on testing day.

GENERAL EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria

  • For girls entering Years 5 to 11 inclusive in 2018
  • Firbank Grammar and External applicants.
  • Awarded by interview and presentation of curriculum vitae.

Firbank is seeking applicants who are academically sound and demonstrate an outstanding commitment to achieving excellence in leadership and extra-curricular activities.

Applications close Thursday, 9 March 2017, and selected applicants will be invited to an interview. Not all applicants will be interviewed.

MUSIC SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria

Firbank Grammar students and external candidates are eligible.

  • For girls entering Years 5 to 11 inclusive in 2018: any musical instrument, including voice by audition and interview. 

Firbank has a long tradition of excellence in music and provides a dynamic and varied music program which includes regular concert performances and overseas tours. An appreciation of music in all its forms is encouraged at all levels of the School.

The award of a Music Scholarship will be made on the basis of an audition conducted by the Co-Directors of Music and  previous school reports. All instruments (including voice) are eligible.

ST ANDREW’S BRIGHTON CHORAL SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria

  • For girls entering Years 5 to 11 inclusive in 2018.
  • By audition and interview and school reports.
  • Firbank Grammar and External applicants.

The School has had a strong association with St Andrew’s since it’s foundation in 1909 and many School services are held at the Church.

The scholarship will be for 75% remission of tuition fees and will be tenable until the completion of Year 12.

The scholarship holder will be required to be a member of St Andrew’s Brighton Choir.

The current pattern of rehearsals and services during the school term is as follows:

Rehearsals:

Mondays
4.00 - 4.45 p.m. - rehearsal in St Andrew's Church 

Wednesday - All Soprano and Alto Choristers at St Andrews
7.00 p.m. – 8.30 p.m.                              

Attendance at Sunday Services:

9.00 a.m. for 10.00 a.m. until approximately 11.15 a.m. and 5.05 p.m. for 6.00 p.m. 

The Choir is not required on public holiday long weekends in March, June and November and out-of-term time, except during Holy Week and Easter and during the time leading up to and including Christmas Day.

VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria

  • For girls entering Years 7 to 11 inclusive in 2018
  • by Presentation of Folio and interview
  • Firbank Grammar and External applicants.

The Visual Arts are an integral part of Firbank’s curriculum. The School has a long tradition of encouraging excellence in creative achievement through its Visual Arts program.

Studies in two-dimensional and three-dimensional work and the use of multi-media to promote individual artistic expression are part of the Art program.

Student achievement is recognised in an annual Art Exhibition, in permanent displays around the School and in specific awards and acquisitive prizes. Our students have consistently succeeded in gaining acceptance into Arts-related tertiary courses. VCE work has been included in the prestigious Top Arts Awards. 

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of an interview and presentation of the student’s folio of work to members of the School’s Visual Arts Department. The Folio should contain a representative range of the student’s work. Short-listed candidates will then be requested to attend a practical session.

The scholarships are offered from the year of entry to Year 12, subject to a satisfactory annual school record, participation in the School’s Visual Arts program, appropriate conduct, attitude and adherence to School Board Policies.

PERFORMING ARTS SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria

  • For girls entering the Senior School in Years 7 to 11 inclusive in 2018
  • Firbank Grammar and External applicants.
  • By audition and interview.

At Firbank, Drama is part of the academic curriculum from Years 7 to 12. The School has a long tradition of encouraging excellence in performance.

There are extensive opportunities for students to participate in a variety of productions during each school year. These include musicals, ensemble pieces, solo performance and student-directed productions during the School’s annual Creative Arts Festival.

Students have the opportunity to develop their skills in stagecraft and production technique. The School has three theatres and works closely with Brighton Grammar School in co-productions. 

The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of an audition conducted by the Head of Drama. The audition will consist of a prepared 5-minute monologue/performance of the student’s choice and a school-directed improvisation.

The scholarships are offered from the year of entry to Year 12, subject to a satisfactory annual school record, participation in the School’s Performing Arts program, appropriate conduct, attitude and adherence to School Board Policies.

SPORTING SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria

  • For girls entering Years 5 to 11 inclusive in 2018
  • Firbank Grammar and External applicants.
  • Awarded by interview and presentation of curriculum vitae.

Firbank has a long tradition of sporting excellence and in the Senior School currently 18 sports are on offer. Firbank is part of Girls’ Sport Victoria, (GSV) which comprises the top 24 girls schools in Melbourne. GSV competition is in a variety of sports.

There is a comprehensive inter-house sporting competition and selected School teams that compete at local, State and National levels.

Skilled coaches support the sporting program of the School.

Applicants must have a sound academic record and demonstrate an outstanding commitment to and an achievement of excellence in their chosen sport/s. Sports scholarship recipients are required to contribute to a range of School sporting activities and compete in their chosen sport for the School for the duration of the Scholarship and are expected to act as good ambassadors for the School.

The scholarships will be tenable until the student has completed Year 12, subject to satisfactory performance.  They will be awarded on the basis of an interview and presentation of their curriculum vitae.  

Applications close Thursday, 2 March 2017, and selected applicants will be invited to an interview. Not all applicants will be interviewed.

All candidates will be notified of results by mail.
